Skim Turabian, 11-62 Oct. 17 Looking Beyond Hatfield & McCoy Alther, “ Other Feuds ” (BB) In order to create a positive learning environment, I ask that you: Attend class faithfully and arrive on time. This may be difficult for you if you are not a morning person. Set an alarm. Set two if necessary. Adequately prepare for class. Carefully read each assignment and come ready to share ideas. Pay attention to the news and material you are covering in other classes and bring in that infor- mation when it applies to the topics we are discussing in this class. To inspire you to keep up with the reading, I will give homework assignments and un- announced quizzes if necessary. Respect deadlines. If I do not receive your assignment during the class period in which it is due and assuming we have not discussed the reasons in advance, I will take off one letter grade. For each additional week it is late, you will be assessed an additional one letter grade penalty. Of course, I will accept university-recognized excuses when considering deadline extensions. Complete all assignments. Failure to do so will result in failure for the class. Show respect to me and your class- mates by exercising good manners. You are not here to catch up on Facebook, eat breakfast, scribble out the homework you have due next hour, or finish putting on your makeup. Turn off phones and mobile devices and place them out of sight and out of arm’s reach. It is not enough to be physically present, you must be mentally engaged as well. You may use a laptop or tablet to take notes, but I may require you to send me your notes if I feel that you are using the device for other purposes. Notify me as soon as possible if you have a documented disability and are working with the Disability Resource Center. THE FINE PRINT Course Schedule
