What to look for when choosing your wedding Photographer Camera gear does matter! It is important that your photographer uses good gear – especially good lenses. This will determine the quality of your images. If the photographers’ gear looks cheap, your photos will probably look the same. The camera gear (including back up gear) should be of professional grade. I invest in a new camera gear every 2 years, not just because of wear and tear but also to stay up to date with the latest technology. Good back-up policies in place I back-up photos immediately when I return from a wedding – no matter how late it is. There should be no excuse for lost photos. Guarantees Hiring a photographer because he checks all the boxes in the beginning is simply not enough. What protection does your investment have? Find out if they offer a satisfaction guarantee. I’ve never had to do this, but if a couple were ever truly unhappy with their wedding photography, I would offer a full refund. Retouching skills and abilities The photographer needs the skill to edit a photo to retain its natural look, while bringing out the best features you have. Your photographer should be proficient in airbrushing, enhancement of the eyes and even the ability to add in features like hair if it’s needed or requested. GUIDE INSIDER’S CHOOSING YOUR PERFECT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER As you narrow down your choices for a wedding photographer, don’t just look at pretty pictures on photographers’ websites. Although it’s important to like the work of the photographer you intend to book, there are things you need to know before you make your decision. I’ve compiled this report for you so you will know what to look for. Don’t get caught out! Your wedding photos are too important. State of the art software Ask your photographer what software they will use to edit your photos. Be aware that some software can actually compromise the quality or limit the potential of the photos. Adobe Photoshop is the in- dustry standard that most good photographers use these days. If your photographer isn’t using Photoshop, ask why not, and make sure you are satisfied with the answer. Quality of products Go visit the photographer you have in mind to see what their albums and printed photos are like in person. You need to see and feel the quality for yourself. Printing matters Did you know that the same photo’s print result can vary significantly from one printer to the next? It pays to find out where your photos will be printed, and to see (and feel) sample prints from your photographer. Good photographers will have a relationship with the printer they use, and be knowledgeable about the quality of the inks and paper your photographs will be printed on.
