Fact 12th June 1890 - Egon Schiele was born, his father worked for the Austrian state railways and was in charge of the station in Tulin. Schiele started drawing at 18 months, obsessed by the railway his father worked at he lled sketchbooks with pictures of trains. At 16 he became the youngest student admitted to the Vienna academy of ne arts. This was in 1906, the same year another hopeful Adolf Hitler was turned away and later went on to hate expressionism. Schiele left the art academy as he didn’t like the conservative and traditional style. He formed the ‘’Neue Kunstgruppe’’ (new art group). In 1907 he met Gustav Klimt, he became a great friend and huge inspiration to Schiele. In 1911 Egon Schiele met Wally Neuzil, she was seventeen. She became his model, friend and eventually lover. In 1912 he was put in prison for 24 days after being falsely accused for seducing a minor, the charge was dropped but he was found guilty of ‘’disseminating pornographic art’’ to children. In 1915 Egon Schiele married Edith Harms. He ended his 4 year relationship with Wally. They never met again and Wally never married. Wally joined the red cross as a nurse and later died of scarlet fever. Above is a painting he did of Wally. To him she was the sexualized model he distanced himself from emotionally. His later wife on the other hand he had a human connection with yet they’re relationship was relatively sexless. He was still allowed to paint other women naked but his sexual deprivation showed in his work and eventually his work lost its powerful sexual energy.
