What is Historical Fiction? Historical fiction (not true) is a narrative based on historical events or people. Although some facts may be true, most of the story is fictionalized. This image shows a Klondiker traveling along the Whitepass to the gold fields. As a writer you could base a character upon this person, call him Gold Rush Joe and then include a description of him that was typical for many miners coming to the gold rush. For example he left his family and friends on the east coast and came on a steamship to get rich.
