Verla Rae was, essential- ly, raised as an only child. She developed a love for books at a young age, and this has continued through- out her life. Verla Rae grew up in Samaria, Idaho, near Malad. By 6 p.m., widespread flooding was reported throughout the city, but a spokeswoman for the Bing- ham County Sheriff’s Office said there were no reports of serious property damage. Several hours later, at 9:30 p.m., many city streets were reported passable and free of standing water, but prob- lems continued at the sew- age treatment plant. In a Wednesday evening news release, Mayor Paul Loomis asked residents to use as little water as possi- ble to ease the burden on the overtaxed facility. Prob- lems at the plant also affect- ed residents in the More- land and Groveland areas, who also are served by the Blackfoot sewer system. Residents were asked to avoid taking baths and showers, washing clothes or pursuing other tasks that ultimately would send addi- tional water to the treat- ment plant. Earlier Wednes- day, there were reports o sewage backing up at vari- ous locations in Blackfoot. Elsewhere in eastern Idaho, law enforcement agencies reported no flood- ing or weather-related prob- lems Wednesday night. The National Weather Service in Pocatello, how- ever, was predicting like- ly showers — and possibl a thunderstorm — before midnight Wednesday in the Blackfoot area and “then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after mid- night (that) could produce heavy rain.” POST REGISTER Storm leads to Blackfoot flooding
