Scam alert posted in Bonneville County Scammers are targeting Bonneville County resi- dents, bilking victims out of money by falsely telling them they are wanted on phony warrants accusing them of failure to appear for jury duty and/or failing to return paperwork, according to the Sher- iff’s Office. In the latest scam attempt, an attorney received a call from a man who told him that he was facing warrants for failing to appear for jury duty and failure to return paper- work. According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, the caller identified himself as “Sgt. Karl Brown” with the Bonneville County Sher- iff’s Office Warrants Divi- sion. He gave a fake court case number and stated that each count carried a $250 fine. The caller requested payment of fines over the phone. But the Sheriff’s Office and Bonneville County Courts will never place telephone calls to collect money, the release said. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone who receives a suspicious tele- phone call to contact the dispatch center at 529- 1200.
