U19A vs WYNBERG U19A vs WYNBERG After some one-sided fixtures against Pinelands and St Josephs in the mid week, the boys were motivated to go head to head with perennial foes, Wynberg. After losing the toss and being sent in on a belter of a pitch at the Jacques Kallis Oval, the Rondebosch skipper, Matthew Christensen lost his off stump in the second over for a duck. Some rebuilding did take place through a partnership of 69 between Keagan Langford and Murray Commins, before the latter was caught behind off the off spin of Christensen for 27. Enter Dayyaan Galiem making a return from his long term injury. Despite some early scares, he started to settle into his rhythm and brought some calmness to the innings. Up until just before drinks, when Langford was dismissed, playing against the turn of Mathews, for a well-played 40. Gavin Kaplan and Galiem sought to manipulate the opposition spinners around the ground and did so successfully - putting together a 101 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Kaplan finally succumbed to his favoured, leg-side flick for 40. This did not deter Galiem who continued to pick up easy singles and the occasional boundary. He was unbeaten at lunch on 85 with the score on 215 for 4. Tayo Walbrugh's knock was full of energy and purpose; declaration was in our sights when he adjudged LBW for 25, sharing a dynamic 63 run stand with his partner.
