PAGE 2 We have discovered just how many different countries make up each of the continents! Room 9 Students DSTA News Room 9 ~ Year 3/4 News On Friday 31 October, our school will participate in the ANZAC Centenary Events. Armed Force Cadets will journey from Bellevue to Fremantle in specially prepared historic looking carriages pulled by a C class diesel locomotive. The locomotive is similar to those used for many years by Western Australian Government Railways across W.A. Students have been invited to commemorate this journey by making Australian flags and ‘waving off the troops' at stations along the route as the train passes by, much as they would have done throughout World War One. Several classes will walk to Swanbourne train station next Friday. It is sure to be a memorable experience! Our morning Literacy and Numeracy sessions, look very much like a beehive, with children busy coming and going to different classes throughout the morning. In Geography, we have been focusing on the continents Africa, Asia, South America and Australia. We have discovered just how many different countries make up each of the continents! Now we are busy gathering information about a selected country and organising it into a PowerPoint. We will be presenting our PowerPoints to the class later this term. Reading Judy Blume’s novel, ‘Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing’ has been thought provoking. Students are making interesting connections from the text to events in their own life and also to something else in the world. Other highlights students have indicated : Learning Japanese Exploring animations, themes and photos for PowerPoint Learning times tables Enjoying science and doing ‘sciency’ ways of life Watching ‘Behind The News’ Scitech excursion Walking to Maclagan Park at the end of term Mrs Ferguson and the students from Room 9 Heritage Train Journey
