MUSIC SCHEDULE The Board of Trustees would like to ex- press its genuine gratitude to several people who have gone out of their way to meet one of the specific needs of the church. Special thanks to: All those Waysiders who so gener- ously shared their wonderful music talents with us during the summer; the special music during the ser- vices has been outstanding. To all the many people who have been busy during the summer months helping Wayside get ready for all the fall events and activities. To the dedicated cleaners who helped keep our building in great shape during our time of transition in the sexton’s position. Special thanks to Lois May, Linda Pentz, Tom Fye and Jim Allman who con- tinue their work in the building on a weekly basis. To Matt, Seth, and Owen McCullough and Justin Grimm for all their hard work in taking down several trees, disposing of the branches, and making our new roof more ‘critter’ protected. There are many others who contribute generously of their time and efforts in support of the church; we are grateful to all of them. MANY THANKS PAGE 2 INSIDE WAYSIDE VOLUME 53, NO 8 The Chancel Choir, Sunrise Singers & Sanctuary Bell Choir will hold a picnic on Sunday, September 4th at 5:00 p.m. at the home of Vic and Shawn Babcock. The Sanctuary Bells is Wayside’s adult bell choir. We meet each Monday night from mid-September to the first week of May at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, with practices lasting an hour or so. We try to perform once a month from October – May and also play on Christmas Eve at the 10:00 p.m. service and both services on Easter morning. The abil- ity to read music is helpful, but not mandatory. If you are interested in finding out more about this opportunity to be a member of this dedicated (and fun!) group of musicians, please contact Ron May (director) at 833-6248. SPECIAL THANKS TO SUMMER MUSICIANS! It is always a musical treat to feature Wayside musicians who provide special music during the summer months. These included Bella Fried, Caroline Grimm, Laurie Hitt, Brianna Morrow, Genna Feltmeyer, Gregg Rabenold, Ka- ren Sidorowicz, Max and Mason Melaragno, Judy Wahlen- mayer and Ron May. Thank you for sharing your talents with us! THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE The Church Officer Nominating Committee is beginning its work and would appreciate your input. If you have sugges- tions of Waysiders who you think would serve well as El- ders, Deacons, or Trustees, please submit their names on one of the forms that can be found on the Information Ta- ble. The Nominating Committee welcomes your sugges- tions and will give prayerful consideration to any submit- ted. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION NEWS PAGE 7 INSIDE WAYSIDE VOLUME 53, NO 8 PARENTS OF 3rd GRADERS PARENTS OF RISING PRESCHOOLERS The decision to have a child move from the Nursery to the Preschool Sunday School Class is up the respective parents. Keith will need to know your de- cision before the fall program- ming begins. So please give him a call or send an email of your intentions. Each child who moves up will receive a new Bible on Sunday, September 7 at one of the ser- vices. The title is The Early Readers Bible. It offers parents questions to discuss each Bible story with their child and makes suggestions of how to live out the lesson that is learned. Names of children we anticipate receiving a Bible this year are: Lillian Bittner, Reed Catrabone, Brooke Marsh, Nolan Hurley, Ethan Potocki, Colin Potocki, and Henry van Helden. PARENTS & THE NURSERY All parents with a child in the nursery are needed to share the coverage of the 11 a.m. service. We ask that each parent help twice between September and May. (4 Sundays per family) Story Cards: The nursery is each child’s first Sunday School class. Most of the curriculum is social interaction. They learn how to play with others and to trust adults beyond their parents. We have story cards for parent vol- unteers to teach the oldest in the room about our faith. They fea- ture a colorful illustration on one side and provide the story on the other side for the story teller. If there are precocious little ones in attendance, there are activity sheets for creative learning. We hope parents will begin the little ones on a meaningful lifelong journey of learning. Safety: For the safety of each child parents must sign their son or daughter in and they must sign them out. WOW KIDS CLUB WOW Kids Club will begin the year on Wednesday, September 10 at 4:00 pm. The schedule will remain: 4:00 to 4:45 choir; 4:45 to 5:00 snack and 5:00 to 6:00 pm the program. Fami- lies are asked to sign up a couple of times to offer the snack. We will also need a few parents who are able to help drive on special occasions be- cause of the size of the club this year. The van will continue to transport children from Fairview and Asbury Elementary schools. Staff are availa- ble to pick up other children as need- ed. Please let Keith know of your child’s needs and if they have changed schools. The Primary Choir will again meet from 5:30 to 6:00. PARENTS OF SECOND GRADERS Second graders are now old enough to attend WOW Kids Club each Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00. We provide transportation for certain schools and for individuals at home as well. Keith needs to hear from you if your child intends to attend, what school they attend, and at what time they need to be picked up. If you plan to drive your child to church, please let him know. ADULT EDUCATION The Adult Education Committee is brainstorming new ideas for our program at Wayside. Jim’ retirement has prompted us to reconsider classes we offer and the focus of these offerings. The Issues of Faith Class will contin- ue to be a speaker series. As al- ways, members are urged to sug- gest subjects and presenters to the committee or to Keith. This year we give a new Deep Blue Kids Bible to your son or daughter as they enter third grade. Our list includes: Collin Bowes, Ella Garrity, Jaiden Glus, Evan Grimm, Kenny Mo- meyer, Jared Parker, Sophia Si- dorowicz, Spencer Swanson, Ka- rina Wismer. If you have a third grader who is not listed please let us know as soon as possible. They will be presented with their Bibles on Sunday, Septem- ber 7th at whichever service your family attends. RALLY DAY SUNDAY SCHOOL September 7th 9:45 a.m. All ages are invited to begin the fall program together from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in Fellow- ship Hall. We will enjoy breakfast together, a Power Point presentation of Vacac- tion Bible School and the youth mission trip and then divide into our respective clas- ses and meet the teachers. Teens and adults will remain in Fellowship Hall for a presentation and discussion around the tables.
