It seems that in many cases, Place has now become a word called Location. Location has taken on a meaning of its own in the social media-cell phone-internet world. If you say location today you are automatically causing people to think of Location Marketing that is mostly associated with social media. Location Marketing has come to mean the process of reaching consumers with advertising when they are in a location from which you can reach them with an appeal appropriate to that environment or location. Perhaps that location is on Facebook or another of the social media. Perhaps that location is when they walk past a certain store or location in a shopping area and an offer is sent to them.
Today, we use this phrase to express our feelings that an item of debate is not consequential and seeking the answer is essentially a waste of time. However, I cannot help but think of this phrase every time I see a web site offering mailing lists. One says they have 120 million US addresses in their database. Another says they have 180 million. I saw the ultimate number a few days ago on a web site where they claimed to have 330 million unique US mailing addresses. Wow! So, even though this may be like counting angels, how many addresses, residential and business, are there in the US?
