ABSTRACT Jordan is a land rich in history and culture. Yet, it is a country with limited agricultural, water, and domestic energy resources. Such deficiencies have hampered economic development. Thus ,tourism is a key contributor to and a prime component of GDP in Jordan. Unfortunately, the industry is still affected by the political instability of the region. Due to the willingness to the diversity of tourism sectors and attractions, medical tourism remains a vital tourism sector in Jordan despite regional unrest. This thesis offers to enhance and extend medical tourism services by establishing a hotel in Amman that is medical tourism friendly. The quality of the health care services in Jordan has built a wide spread reputation in the region and it is attracting foreign patients that seek a variety of treatments. The medical tourism industry in Jordan attracted around 108,000 foreign patients per year. Attracting foreign patients to Jordan means providing the needs and specific services for such users. The design of the project is offering an integrative approach (environmental ,physical and psychological aspects) for a proper healing space design for an ethnic majority where the building reinterprets the metaphysics of the Islamic perspective towards illness through the experimentation of light and geometry. The project is located in Arar street (main) and behind Jordan Hospital . It is considered to be contributing to the overall Arar street vision of corridor intensification strategy . Taking into consideration the nature of the site (panoramic cliff) and the nature of the wanted experience in each space, the building presents in distinctive sculptural appearance . The design dismantles the typical hotel and podium typology to render not a building in isolation but instead a building that melds with the context by gradual massing of activities that connect the two levels of the plot and provide a sensitive hierarchy of privacy . This effect begins with a series of cascading indoor/outdoor terraces . The project comprise a hotel of a mix of one-to-two room for guests (60 in total) with expansive panoramic views .It also offers a range of outstanding amenities that is culturally sensitive as meditation , therapy and recreational areas for both men and women - each in a separate space-. The bottom side of the building (podium) offers commercial spaces, offices as well as public spaces such as restaurants and public gardens .
