The door to the library door opened quickly, and shut with a loud bang. Mrs. Jane, the librarian, smiled, knowing exactly who was about to approach her desk. It was November eighth, and she was due for another book. Just as she predicted, Alice Brown, stood at her desk just a couple of seconds later. “ Hello, Mrs. Jane, ” Alice said, politely. “Well, hello Alice. What type of book will you be looking for today?” Mrs. Jane asked. Mrs. Jane saw Alice was thinking hard, and she slipped into a trance, waiting for Alice to make up her mind. Alice was one of the people who visited the library almost three times a week. She also checked out some of the biggest books that Mrs. Jane could even think of. A question she would always ask Alice is how she was able to finish books so fast. Alice would just shrug her shoulders. Another weird thing that Mrs. Jane noticed about Alice is that she was always dressed in the most comfortable way possible. She always wore sweat pants and sweat shirts even though it was blazing hot outside. She was a peculiar little kid. Finally, Alice woke Mrs. Jane out of her trance. “I think I want to check out a fantasy book this week,” Alice chirped. Alice didn ’t really have a favorite type of book. All books were amazing to her. Fantasy just seemed like it would be a fun choice this week. “ Okay. Follow me, ” Mrs. Jane replied. Mrs. Jane motioned for Alice to follow her. They walked in between the library shelves. It smelled strongly of ink and paper. After a minute of walking, Mrs. Jane stopped in the fantasy section. Her eyes scanned the shelves. Her hand moved over the spines of the books, and pulled out a book called “Star City.” “I read this book a million times when I was a kid,” She commented, handed the book to Alice, and walked back to the checkout desk. Once Alice was all checked out, she went straight home. When Alice arrived home, the house was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. She was used to this.
