OFFICIALLY DEAD REPORT Officially dead is a book written by Richard Prescott that has a lot of interesting elements that we’ll show car efully in the information below. CHARACTERS In this book we will find a lot of characters but we’ll divide them in three groups: those that play a very important role in the course of the story, those that appear just to support the main characters and those that are just mentioned. In the first group of characters we’ll find as protagonist of the stor y Colin and Julie Fenton who are partners not only in business but in life, they are married and own a software company, their role in one of the most important in the story. There’s another couple that belong to this group, they are who do the “dirty job” (the antagonist of the story), Linda and John Bentley workers in a jewelry store named Sandwell’s. The last member of this group is important just for being in the right place at the right time and help in the solution of the conflict showed in the story, Mark Ashwood an independent accountant. The second group is formed just by two characters Mr.Brooker and Frankie Simpson ; the first is the accountant of Fenton’ s company, the second is Bentley’ s friend and helps them in a business in the course of the story. Both characters help the main characters with their business and that is an important role but it’s not more important than the role that main characters play. In the last group are Maggie (Secretary and general office helper in Fenton’s company), J ulie’s assistant programmers (Jenny and Rob), two police officers, a truck driver and others that are just mentioned and their role is not important at all. THE THEME There are many themes which can show a relation with the book some of them are: the crime, the evilness, the hatred, the greed, the injustice, the justice, the destiny, the love, etc. But there are some characteristics that show us that any of the themes before mentioned are the specific theme or main idea of the story; the first and the most important is that in general all that themes just appear in specific moments and not in the complete story, the second is that any of the themes before mentioned are the fact that occasioned the main conflict showed in the story, and the last is that even in the end of the story any of those themes are representing something very important for a character or for the characters. Considering those aspects we found that the main idea of the story is “t he lie ” because it has the entire characteristics before mentioned; it appears in the entire story since the beginning when Colin lied or hide the truth to Julie (that is the same) about the economic
