About Lawrence Lawrence Ferlinghe, born on March 24 1919, New York.In 1953 Lawrence opened up a bookstore which was a place for literary advanced. Lawrence ’ s dad died before he was born and his mum was sent to a mental hospital. Lawrence ’ s aunt had raised predominantly in France, then later moved to Long Island in New York and seled there. Lawrence commenced his wring of poems when he was 12 and during his youth he aended mulple schools for an unknown reason. When he had nished school he went to the University of North Carolina where Chapel Hill is. Where he was awarded a bachelor's degree in journal- ism in 1941. Beat Movement Beat poetry came about around the 1940s in New York City and on the west coast, later San Francisco became the epicentre of the poec movement at the beginning of the1950s.
