2 Welcome to the first week of Spring and another busy week of Living, Learning and Community. This week is an historic week in the life of the College as our first cohort of Year 12 students sit the Queensland Core Skills Tests as part of their OP Pathway to Tertiary Entrance. It is a two day timetabled test that assesses the Common Curriculum Elements, which are a set of generic skills identified in the Qld Senior Curriculum. The QCS Test contributes information for the calculation of Overall Positions (OPs) and Field Positions (FPs), which are used to rank students for tertiary entrance. The test assumes that candidates have basic levels of general knowledge and vocabulary and a Year 10 knowledge of mathematical operations. The QCS Test consists of 4 papers — a Writing Task (of 600 words), a Short Response paper and two Multiple Choice papers. The results achieved for each of the 4 test papers are combined into one grade, ranging from A (the highest grade) to E (the lowest). Those sitting the test are asked to respond to a variety of stimulus materials, such as prose passages, poetry, graphs, tables, maps, mathematical and scientific data, cartoons and artistic works. We ask you to join with us in wishing our students every success as they take these tests. A number of our students are involved in performances at the Gladstone Eisteddfod across its duration and we wish them all the very best as they showcase their many and varied talents that they have been blessed with! The first floor of our new building is being poured this week and it is amazing how quickly it is all taking shape! Our six new classrooms will be an awesome addition to our facilities here at the College for 2015. There’s a great range of activities planned across the College this Term; including School Concert and we look forward to having you involved! Have a very blessed week!
