Reinforcing Effort and Providing Recognition are basic tenants of good teaching. Sometimes as basic as it is, we don't do it often enough. This is particular important and meaningful for the inclusion student who may need even little more encouragement. I love the ideas of sharing real stories of perseverance and success and "Pause, Prompt, Praise". I am going to try to use both of these strategies. I would also like to try to use Class Dojo which I learned about in another North Tier class. It is an online classroom behavior management system (not related to achieving specific academic standards) but it can also be used as another way to praise, recognize, and reward. Just as there can probably never be enough praise for students, there can also probably never be too much feedback. This is another area of my teaching I really want to improve, most especially for my inclusion students. I always start out strong then feel overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of students and paperwork. I am going to focus on varying both types of assignments and types of feedback. I also like the idea if using contracts to address specific objectives and goals. I am really excited about the proven benefits of cooperative learning and non- linguistic representations. In a language class, both are extremely important in trying to communicate, teach, and learn while staying at least 90% of each class in the target language. I am going to keep the article “ Cooperative Learning Is a Brain Turn On" article as a great resource. Sometimes as teachers we may feel like things are "out of control" during cooperative learning activities. The truth is that if they are well-planned and managed, they can really provide optimal learning, both academic and social, for all students. For the inclusion student who has a role and an opportunity to contribute in a group setting, this can be very rewarding. I am going to try to include even more thoughtfully planned cooperative learning activities than I have in the past and think more carefully about how I form my groups. When I signed up for this class, I only knew about Marzano's work related to vocabulary instruction. I have learned so much! I love all the resources in the Marzano Live Binder, Live Binder itself, and Flipsnack! These tools are yet another way to present, organize, differentiate, practice, and interact with content which can only be beneficial for all students. In addition, some of tools I want to start out using in class are: Padlet, Popplet, bubbl . us Wikispaces, Evernote , Glogster, VoiceThread, iMovie, Quizlet, and more YouTube. I believe using Marzano's nine strategies combined with integrating the technology which supports them gives me the knowledge and means to better address the needs of the inclusion students in my Spanish classes. I am excited, motivated, and eager to see the positive results and my students' success!
