Chapter 2 How to play The goal I will teach you the basic rules of basketball and the important things. Did you know that basketball is a sport played by 2 teams with 5 from each team on the court at once? The point of the game is to score or shoot in the other team’s basket by passing or dribbling the ball. If you score in front of the 3 point line you get 2 points. If you score from behind the 3 point line you score 3 points. It gets really exciting when someone scores a 3 pointer! The Length Each game is 4 quarters or 2 halves. Each quarter is 1015 minutes while each half being 2030 minutes! Timeouts There are also timeouts that coaches can call if they need to rethink their plan or just to rest. Players can get water and get ready for when the game starts again. Chapter 3 Double Dribbles and Travels Double Dribble There are lots of violations likes fouls that we’ll talk about later but there’s also double dribbling and traveling. A double dribble is when a player bounces the ball with 2 hands or when you dribble and pick the ball up and dribble again. Travel A travel is when you walk with the ball without dribbling or you carry the ball. If you do any of these the referee will blow the whistle and the other team will get the ball. These rules are important so you don’t just run over really fast and score like in American Football. Chapter 4 Fouls Personal Foul Do you know all of the fouls? If you guessed 4 you are correct! One of the fouls is a regular personal foul. Usually these don’t happen on purpose. You get called for it when you hit, or push a player on
