Part I: Introduction   The career I am currently pursuing is Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Ultrasonography, commonly known as sonography is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. I am looking for a career that would be compatible with my knowledge and skills. I would like a stress-free environment, with co-workers that work well together. I would like a career that has competitive pay and benefits. I believe a sonographer is a great fit for my personality because I like helping people, helping them get well, seeing the end result of all medical procedures that were performed. A diagnostic medical sonographer is a highly-skilled professional who uses specialized equipment to create images of structures inside the human body that are used by physicians to make a medical diagnosis. The process involves placing a small device called a transducer against the patient's skin near the body area to be imaged. The transducer works like a loudspeaker and microphone because it can transmit sound and receive sound. The transducer sends a stream of high frequency sound waves into the body that bounce off the structures inside. The transducer detects sound waves as they bounce off the internal structures. Different structures in the body reflect these sound waves differently. A computer to make an image of the structure on a television screen analyzes these sounds or that can be recorded on videotape. I believe some of my strengths for this job would be my willingness to work (work ethic). My weakness would be my shyness. Long-term goals for this career path would be advance myself in the medical field, becoming a program director of an imaging facility.
