Esmoriz is a town on the coast just south of Porto in northern Portugal and is famous for one sport: VOLLEYBALL! Every year the Esmoriz Volleyball Club organizes a four day international volleyball tournament for under-14 through to under-19 boys and girls and in 2015 is the 7th edition of the tournament. The tournament occurs during the Easter break and it is a fantastic opportunity to come and visit this beautiful part of northern Portugal in a fun, safe and relaxed atmosphere. We organize everything including accommodation (mainly in school classrooms converted into dormitories, with one room for each team), food, transport and leisure activities. Esmoriz is a small friendly place with one of the best beaches in northern Portugal and is less than half an hour from Portugal’s second city, Porto and 45 minutes from Aveiro. Esmoriz is on the main Porto to Lisbon train line (the stadium is 2km from the station) and 10 minutes from the A1 motorway. There are quite a few low-cost routes flying into Portugal, so it should not be too expensive to get there and then the tournament costs just €90 per person including 3 nights accommodation and all meals. Our aim is to provide some serious games of volleyball, but above all a fun and friendly atmosphere where athletes have the chance to spend time with other athletes from different countries and get a chance to enjoy what northern Portugal has to offer (and if all you know of Portugal is the Algarve, then you are in for a wonderful surprise when you get to see how unspoilt and attractive the north is). The tournament is split into two weeks, so the U17, U18 and U19s compete the first week (26th to 29th of April), the U15 and U16s compete the second week (1st to 4th of April) and U14 compete 3th and 4th April. Generally there is a range of different ability players, so your team should be able to fit in fine, as long as they are not beginners. Most of the games are broadcast live via our website, so your friends and family back home can watch. And when you are not playing, we have a fan zone where there are games, music and snacks available and of course you can visit the beach, which is a few minutes walk from the volleyball stadium.
