Around the World: This week in Around the World, students explore the medical advancements of the 20th century, including the discovery of penicillin, the introduction of vaccines, the creation of the artificial heart, and the development of methods to preserve plasma. Math Matters: Students learn the math behind the computational period of the 1900s, including binary numbers, algorithms, efficiency, and programming, through the use of activities and popular board games. Bring on the Books: Students experience moments from the Great Depression, the Roosevelt era, World War II, and the flight of Apollo 11 through new and award-winning, narrative nonfiction picture books. Spreading the Word: Students create words, sharpen word association skills, practice parts of speech, and learn idioms as they complete crossword puzzle games and play other popular games from the 1900s.
