Petrojarl Foinaven FPSO Debottlenecking Study Overview The Foinaven field is located 125 miles West of Shet- land. Production commenced during 1997, and was the first North Atlantic Shelf field to enter production. The field comprises three drill centres, DC1, DC2 and East Foinaven, tied back to a centrally stationed Float- ing Production, Storage and Offloading Vessel (FPSO). The field was and remains one of the highest revenue earners within the BP Upstream portfolio and as such is a key cornerstone of BP’s North Sea future develop- ment plan. Our Solution •Full plant (including Utility systems) capacity assess- ment using our proprietary MeasCap capacity modelling software •CFD assessment of the 1st Stage Separator and Slug Catcher for the new production rates and proposed mod- ifications. •Process - led identification and assessment of debottle- necking options focussing on minimising modifications. •Facilitated Capacity and Constructability review work- shops with BP and Teekay to present initial findings/ options and get operations input. •Multi - discipline engineering development of the options, including site survey. •MeasCap was then used to quantify the impact of incre- mental production increases on modification scope/ CAPEX. Client Issues As the field has aged, oil recovery has naturally de- creased with decreasing reservoir pressures, hence BP required a debottlenecking study in order to assess the cost and feasibility of increasing topsides oil, water and gas throughput. It was also therefore important to deter- mine the corresponding impact on existing equipment due to such a potential step change in production rates. Atkins Value Added MeasCap – Automates the capacity assessment. In - house CFD – Independent review of separation equipment. Workshops – Brought operational experience and com- mercial needs into the requirements of the project. Client: BP
