These devotionals share different perspectives from your fellow Hyde Park United Methodist parishioners about our Advent theme "Take Heart." We hope they help you prepare more fully for the coming of Christ this Christmas.
This year’s Missions Directory is dedicated to David Smith in memory of his many years of faithful service. Dear Hyde Park Disciples: It is with great joy that I write this letter to you. At Hyde Park, one of our core values is that we are “connectionally committed.” This value demonstrates our ongoing commitment to what John Wesley called “the connexion.” It means that no single United Methodist congregation is in ministry alone. We are partners with fellow United Methodists around the world who share a common mission of “making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” The primary way we share in our global connection is through the missional apportionments that are included in our Ministry and Missions budget. Additionally, this book introduces you to the mission projects, ministries and missionaries selected by our missions and outreach leadership team, including church-based mission outreach and support of missions partners in our local community and world. Altogether, the support we give beyond Hyde Park’s own ministries equals a tithe or 10 percent of the total Ministry and Missions budget. We celebrate our connectional commitment when we commit our time, prayers and gifts as a living expression of our connection with the worldwide body of Christ this fall through our United series. We hope you will join us in these efforts to make God’s love real in tangible ways in our city and in the world. May this book be a guide for nding your way to serve in Missions and Outreach. Grace and peace, Rev. Roger Scholtz
