“I wanted everything when I wanted it. One day I wanted money for a new bike but my parent’s wouldn’t give me any money, because our income was scarce of course. I was at a friends house and his parents had left to go on a long nature walk. His mother had left her purse at home. When my friend went to go make lunch for the both of us, I got into his mother’s purse on the table and took all the money that I found. It ended up being around $315. I snuck out of the house before my friend noticed and started for the bike store, with all the money in my hands. I didn’t know the police were around the corner, and they stopped me and asked where I got all the money. I started running again, but they got me, quickly too. I notice the man’s eyes watering, he must have been terribly ashamed of himself in his teens. “I had to explain what I had done to the police and they brought me home to my parents to tell them. Once I was done explaining, they returned the money and brought me to juvie, for theft. Stealing that money wasn’t worth juvie for 3 and a half months. Now I hope you see what the consequences are to being greedy and impatient.” The old man finally stops talking and I realize that I shouldn’t be greedy anymore. I don’t want to go to juvie. I know I can’t go to juvie just for taking my brothers apple, or being angry about waiting for a latte, but what if being greedy a little right now leads to stealing and going to juvie in the future!? “I see now, thanks for the talk”. I say. “No problem, glad I could help you.” The old man said. He starts to get up and I stop him. “Wait,” I say as he starts to walk away. “What’s your name?” “Allan,” he says with a small smile. I smile myself, as I gather my keys, purse and latte. I should apologize to my brother for taking the last apple , I think to myself. I’ll get him a donut, almost everyone loves those. I walk up to the counter and order a double chocolate donut with extra sprinkles, that’s my favorite, so I figured he’d like them too. I wait for the donut, only about three minutes, and it’s ready.
