In this, my rst letter to you in the University o Denver Magazine as your chancellor, I want to start by saying how pleased and proud I am to join such a great research university that holds in the highest regard academic quality, value or students and service to the public good. I am impressed with the University’s spirit o boldness and innovation, the incredible riendliness o this community, and the love and loyalty or the University o Denver that I have heard rom so many o you. Te University is increasingly prominent on national and international levels thanks, in large part, to the passion and creativity o so many sta and aculty using new approaches to scholarship and a ocus on student-centered learning. We’ve also arrived at this point through the vision and stewardship o Chancellors Daniel Ritchie and Robert Coombe and the work o many others. With the success o the recently completed ASCEND Campaign (see page 24), which will support scholarships and strengthen the student experience, we are now strongly positioned to move the University orward as a leader in higher education. In the past year, the University has laid the oundation or our uture through the Strategic Issues Panel on Higher Education and the planning steering committee. Tese groups helped to identiy the needs, opportunities and principles that must guide the crafing o our strategic direction. We will build upon this work to dene new strategic directions. Te rst step will be to design a planning process that ts our community, that will allow input and transparency, and that will address the complexities o the University. Tis all, I will begin a listening tour across the campus community, in Denver and among our alumni. I want to learn all you can tell me about the University o Denver, as well as your vision or its uture. As I learn rom you, we will begin to shape together a process or setting our direction. Please watch or opportunities to participate in the listening tour, whether in organized town halls, talking to me on campus or other venues. In the meantime, I ask you to help me consider some questions about our university and what we need going orward, and I invite you to share your answers with me. We have created a website (du.edu/chancellor) where you can engage with me rom wherever you are on the globe. I will be using this website as just one way o maintaining an ongoing dialogue with you. I look orward to learning rom you and with you, and guiding this process o direction- setting in the months ahead. ogether, we will help shape DU’s uture. On a personal note, my spouse, Fred Tibodeau, joins me in saying “thank you” or the incredibly warm welcome you are giving us. We look orward to meeting you at perormances and athletic events, celebrating with you at Homecoming and other occasions, and simply seeing you on this beautiul campus. Warmly, Rebecca S.
