Welcome 2013 has been a year of change. In September 2013 we nally moved into our new oces. Though sll based in the Town Hall we now occupy two well equipped classrooms and two oces. The organisaon has had a challenging year both nancially and in meeng demand. Over the past couple of years the stang hours have reduced to a third of what it was in 2010, yet the demand has remained the same due to pressures on our clients to seek employment and gain the basic IT skills to sustain employment. We have relied heavily on volunteers to support people in communies and our oversubscribed Job Clubs. On average our volunteers donate 650 hours per month of theirme. We cannot express our thanks strongly enough to both sta and volunteers for the commitment and connued belief in our mission to improve the lives of local people. We must also thank Kirklees Council for unwavering support and connued funding. We are opmisc for the future and looking forward to celebrang our 20 year anniversary in 2014, Princess Anne has been invited to start the event in September. Dr Mike Plumb Chairman Our Mission Statement The Disabled People's Electronic Village Hall exists to provide top quality training in computer use and related careers for disabled and disadvantaged people in order to improve their lifestyles, educaon and employment prospects. Who uses The DP-EVH All kinds of people use our services. We work with disabled and disadvantaged adults throughout Kirklees. Some people have physical disabilies and some have learning dicules however everyone is welcome to apply to join our courses. We also work in partnership with many other organisaons such as Libraries and other community groups who are trying to make life beer in their community. Mark Addison Kirklees Return to Learning Award Mark was last in educaon in 1976, (35 year gap). By his own admission Mark would not class his own basic state educaon as a good experience and aer failing the brutal 11 plus examinaon (not due to lack intelligence he says) he was resigned to the educaonal dustbin as a child and has been mad about it ever since. During his studies on the PTLLS course Mark had health problems (quad heart bypass mid course) followed by a long period of cardiac rehabilitaon. He also says he had to stop smoking (It’s a right pig trying to learn IT while suering from Nicone withdrawal.) He also got his teeth xed to improve appearance and had to stop swearing. (parally successful, he says). Since compleng his Level 2 IT and PTLLS training Mark is volunteering with the DP-EVH helping other learners in the classroom and on outreach. In fact Mark led on outreach whilst at Dewsbury Library. This involved responding to requests from the public in any area of IT, ranging from how do I email to searching for holidays and insurance. Due to his success at the Library Mark got the feel good factor when helping others and has enrolled at college to study for DTLLS, supported by the DP-EVH. Reception Training Room 2 “ Volunteers donate an average of 650 hours per month of their time”
