Addiction Drug addiction is a fructifying problem among juvenile delinquents. According to Drug Abuse , 9.2 percent of the U.S population, children 12 or older have a drug addiction. One of the extract from “Freedom Writers” states, “No more headaches, body aches, or stomach aches until of course, the high is over, but only until I reach for my best friend called crystal meth.” The definition of addiction is the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity. “Sometimes maybe you need an experience. The experience can be a person or it can be a drug. The experience opens a door that was there all the time but you never saw it. Or maybe it blasts you into outer space.” says Melvin Burgess. “An experience can do two different things; make someone never want to try it again or become addicted” he continued to say. “Drinking and driving is worse than being a drug addict. By being addicted to drugs one is harming themselves, but it could damage family members and people encompassing. Researchers sey “being addicted to drugs can trigger a lot of things that you do not normally do”. First, if one does not have money, she/he might have the indecency to steal. Secondly, this might trigger one selling his/her body meaning prostitution. Lastly, can could change you face structure. It causes oversensitiveness to the skin (scientificamerican.org). A drug addict has no control over their personal being. As stated by Chris Prentiss, The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure “The mentality and behavior of drug addicts and alcoholics is wholly irrational until you understand that they are completely powerless over their addiction and unless they have structured help, they have no hope.” Numbers of drug related deaths skyrocketed. In Indiana, the number of misusing drug has times itself by four since 1999. Indiana has the country’s 17th highest rate of drug overdose deaths. Indiana's overdose death rate was up to 14.4 per 100,000 people. (The Truth for America’s Health) My uncle, a redeemed drug addict, has a remarkable story of how he vanquish drugs that is staging. “There is no drug I ain’t never used.” He became addicted at the age of 15. It all began when his friend, John countenanced him to a party. At the party, there were different types of illegal drugs and substances. One friend suggested to try a drug called LSD which is known as a very dangerous acid. “Everybody was like try it,try it and if I did not then everybody would of called me a punk, so i did not have a choice.” He explained. “It looked like a yellow small piece of paper, it didn't look like it could hurt me” He continued. He suddenly placed the piece the paper under his tongue. Then all of a sudden he began to feel a tingling sensation throughout his body. Then he started to trip out like a squirrel going crazy over his nuts. It took him a while to get himself back together. After that party, he was hooked on it. “Wow, I didn't know I would need it all the time, I was addicted.” He suddenly said. He would always ask a family member for money to buy drugs. After a year of being an addict, he decided to turn his life around. He was seeked for help in at a rehab center in Daytona Beach, Florida called Haven Recovery Center. Til this day he is living a free clean life in Ohio. “ If I was to never reach out for help, I probably would of been dead on today” Continued. In conclusion, we can all work as a team to stop this. Kurt Vonnegut stated, “Here is the solution to the American drug problem suggested a couple years back by the wife of our President: "Just say no.” The “say no to drugs” phrase is true. Drugs can hurt you, make you become an addict, or make you go nuts! “When people who believe themselves to be addicts or alcoholics come under great stress or trauma, they mentally give themselves permission to drink or use drugs as a remedy.” said Chris Prentiss. “Skip all of this and just say no! ”
