Description of Lesson Introduction: Students will be shown the icon for the ShowMe app on their iPad. Students will have time to play around with the ShowMe app experimenting with typing, writing, and recording audio. This will give students time to explore and get ideas for the activity. Main Activity: Students will be instructed to create a short dialogue between two fictional characters. Suggestions will be to extend a fairy tale of their choosing. They will sequence their storyboard dialogue using Popplet Lite. Requirements for dialogue will be: - Dialogue must be at least 8 sentences total. - Dialogue should be natural and should include at least one question and one exclamation. - Students will share their storyboard with the teacher for approval. Students will use the ShowMe app to write (type or hand) and record their dialogue. They will include their ‘sound effects’ theatre for proper punctuation. Students will share this with the teacher by email for evaluation. Conclusion: Students will share their dialogue and recordings with a partner. Partners will ‘peer edit’ and give feedback for proper punctuation and fluency (expression and pace). Extension: Students will be writing fictional narratives with sufficient dialogue. This activity will assist them in proper punctuation when adding dialogue to their stories and practice in using Popplet Lite to sequence/brainstorm their stories prior to beginning to writing first drafts. In the future completed fictional narratives will be made into their own books or animated stories using Book Creator or Puppet Pals 2. Accommodations/Modifications for diverse students: Students will work with partners to complete activity. Dialogue may also be shortened if needed. Assessment: The ShowMe dialogue will be evaluated based on the criteria mentioned above.
