INTERNSHIP REFLECTIVE JOURNAL 2 Internship Reflective Journal For the past 6 years, I have been working in the Henry County School District as an ESOL (English to speakers of other languages) instructor. In 1905 the district was known as the City Schools of McDonough and it opened its schools with 160 students. Currently, the District has 50 schools (29 elementary, 11 middle, and 10 high schools) with over 40,000 students enrolled. According the district’s mission they are Committed to Ensuring Educational Success for Each Student. Because the position I hold in the district is itinerant, I will be completing internship activities in multiple schools. For the most part, the schools within the district are uniform in their support of the district’s mission and beliefs as they link t heir building level mission and beliefs after the district model. Each school tailors their mission and beliefs to meet the unique needs of the school, faculty, students/parents, and community members. The student population of each of the schools is varied and demonstrates the diversity within the district. Each of the high schools present unique opportunities for me to learn a variety of practical lessons related to improving curriculum and instruction. Throughout the clinical practice, I plan to work within the district to in a variety of activities that will strengthen my knowledge of curriculum and instruction issues. One of my main goals is to help teachers to develop and enhance their capacity to provide high-quality instructional programs designed to prepare limited English proficient students to develop proficiency in English, while meeting the challenges of State academic content and student academic achievement standards. However, I have developed an interest in the budgeting processes that are used to develop funding initiatives within the district. For the first few weeks of this internship, I learned some valuable lessons about planning, change, and adaptability while working as a curriculum leader in the HCS District.
