Flexibility is an aspect o ftness that is commonly overlooked and pushed aside. As a way to spruce up a basic stretch routine, people turn to Yoga. This mind and body style o exercise can be a challenge in itsel. But to add that extra edge into the stretching routine, more and more people are turning to hot yoga, or- mally known as Bikram. Bikram is a orm o yoga that uses the same mantra as regular yoga yet is perormed in temperatures of 100 degrees or hotter. A 90-120 minute class of Bikram can burn up to 600 calories. Similar to standard yoga, hot yoga benefts the body and the mind. The increased temperature o the heated room increases the pulse rate and metabolism, which improves circulation, allowing or the body to move around reely with a lesser risk o injury. This intense exercise becomes a true mind over matter task with the raised temperatures by challenging the yogi to push onesel under extreme conditions. Keep in mind, that although hot yoga may sound like the challenge you have been looking or, the sauna-like room can be dangerous if you are not properly prepared. Make sure to drink plenty of water before, during and ater the practice and wear lightweight clothes that allow the body to breath. I you are someone who is prone to heat related illness such as stroke, a doctor should give you clearance beore attempting hot yoga.
