Around 2,209 people died during the Johnstown flood in 1889. Of those 2,209 people, 99 families died, including 396 children. Over 750 bodies were unable to be identified, and lay in the Grandview Cemetery as "Unknown". Some bodies were found all the way in Cincinnati, in later years like 1911. Over 1,600 homes were destroyed during this flood, and there were $17 million in property damages.
