The next series was a perfect illustration of the disjointed nature of the game. Hoffman Estates ran 11 plays, seven of which were stopped by Prospect. However, the other four plays, plus penalties on the Knights, accounted for 74 yards with the final 23 coming on a 3 rd -and-19 pass for a touchdown. Of course the extra point was mishandled but the Hawks improvised on a 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. A late interception didn’t hurt the Knights and at halftime the score remained the same. The second half saw the Knights come out playing with more energy. The defense forced a punt after one Hawk first down and then the offense put together their best drive of the night, moving from their own 36 to the Hoffman Estates 20 in seven plays, all runs, including two by Matt Drew for 12 and 15 yards. But then trouble arose as two penalties negated a first down at the 10 and a tipped pass led to an interception and 45-yard return to the Knights’ 20. Five plays later the Hawks scored after a 4 th -down conversion and a QB scramble to make the lead 15-0. After the subsequent kickoff, Prospect failed to convert as the referees failed to call a pass interference that would have meant a first down. Prospect punted down to the Hawks 10. Hoffman Estates then proceeded to march 90 yards in 14 plays to score against a tiring Knights’ defense and seal the 22-0 win. Prospect suffered the loss of QB Matt Drew to injury. Our hopes are with Matt for a full recovery. The Knights were much more competitive this week, but need to rely on each other to all contribute to the team’s success. The next game is at Palatine Friday night. Let’s put a complete effort together and get a victory. There was no Sophomore game last weekend but they will be back and ready for Palatine this Friday.
