The Week in Review Prospect vs Rolling Meadows Varsity 13 – 46 Sophomore 8 – 27 Freshman A 8 – 16 Freshman B 20 – 0 Tough Night for the Knights Lets Go Knights! Prospect's sophomore football team took on the Rolling Meadows Mustangs on Friday in an away game and lost 8-27. The Knights went toe-to-toe with the opposition during the first half with the score tied at intermission. The first half started with the Knights kicking off to Rolling Meadows. On the Mustangs first play from scrimmage at their own 28 yard line, Sam Stolidakis set the tone for the defense with a big solo tackle for a loss. For the rest of the Mustangs opening series, the defense swarmed to the ball consistently on first downs. On the four first downs during the drive, the Knights defense yielded a total of 6 yards, including a smothering hit for no gain by Vince Lobono. After the long possession, Rolling Meadows scored a touchdown and successfully went for 2 making the score 0-8. Prospect took over after the kick-off at their own 30. Actually, Dante Cecala and the offensive line took over. After 5 plays, where Cecala carried the ball 3 times for 28 yards, the Knights faced a 4th down and 1 from the Mustangs 41. Staying with the hot hand, QB Josh Kern handed off to Cecala again and he found a crease behind guard Vince Shields on the right side. Dante bolted quickly through the opening and out-ran the Rolling Meadows defense for a fast 41 yard touchdown. To tie the game, Prospect converted a 2 point play after the touchdown, with a score by......Dante Cecala running behind the offensive line: Evan Sadlon, Vince Shields, Ryan Roggeman, AJ Salvadore and Sam Lumia. On the next possession for Meadows, the Prospect defense forced a punt on a three-and-out series. Not much happened for Prospect on the next series either and the Knights punted after 3 plays. Anthony Liva pinned the Mustangs deep in their own territory at the 14. After 6 plays, Prospect forced another punt from mid-field. Starting at the Prospect 15, the Knights again gave the ball to Danta Cecala. He carried the ball on 1st down for 8 yards and on 3rd down for 15 yards. Faced with another 4th and 1, this time from their own 42, Josh Kern kept the ball plowing straight ahead for the first down. With the time running down in the first half, Prospect went to the air: Kern completed a 9 yard pass to Stu Isteefanos and a few plays later completed another 9 yard slant to Josh McDermott. The drive ended on 4th down, giving the ball to Rolling Meadows on their own 35 with 41 seconds left to play in the half. On second down, a long pass completion took the ball to the Prospect 3 yard line. Now, Rolling Meadows has the ball, first and goal. The defense rose to the challenge by shutting down the opponents and holding them without any points. First half score: 8-8. The second half was hard-fought, but Prospect could not overcome turnovers and a few big plays made by the Mustangs. The prominent Prospect student section and the cheerleaders never lost enthusiasm for their team and the team battled to the end. Next, the Knights take on Wheeling this Friday ni ht at home. Many Thanks To this Season’s Sports Writers! Doug Doughty, Varsity Gregg Sadlon, Sophomore
