May 2013 saw the launch o our new and exciting initiative “ Friends of Conservation Volunteers ”, as well as the relaunch o our revitalised Membership Program. Launches were held all across Australia and New Zealand with many enthusiastic supporters in attendance, keen to learn more about the new initiative and to lend a hand in the name o the environment. Friends of Conservation Volunteers has been developed with local supporter groups in mind, located at every Conservation Volunteers oce, property and major project location. Joining a Friends o Conservation Volunteers local group is open to both members and volunteers, and provides more volunteering opportunities at a local, grass roots level, including regular volunteering on local projects, social activities and exclusive Friends events. In addition to regular practical volunteering, people who attended the launches were also interested in assisting with Event Management, Photography and Fundraising to name a ew. We also discovered that Friends are most interested in volunteering on projects locally, but also in local guided bushwalks and the occasional social event. Each local group will have members with dierent skill sets and thereore each group will be unique in what events and projects they undertake. By being part o a local Friends of Conservation Volunteers , you’ll have a say in what interests you most and how you’d like to be involved. Most o those who attended the launch events were also very interested in joining our new Membership program. Members bring strength in numbers; every new member will help Conservation Volunteers attract more support to protect our landscapes, wildlie and heritage. The last twelve months or us here at Conservation Volunteers Australia has been all about making our dollar stretch urther while continuing to achieve great practical conservation outcomes. As a supporter, you know that we are all about rolling up our sleeves and making a dierence to the environment. You may also be aware that in recent times we have made a signicant commitment to establishing a connected landscape o precious ecosystems and habitat or native fora and auna in the Little Desert region o Western Victoria. We are now seeking your help to put the next piece into this jigsaw o ragmented habitat. In 2013, we have made it our priority to secure the long-term uture o Lemon Springs and Middlegate blocks in the Little Desert Region o Western Victoria. We have already received a commitment o $900,000, towards the total amount needed o $1.5 million to protect this land, and the wildlie that lives there. This project is the ocus o our 2013 Tax Appeal, and we ask you to consider a donation that will help us preserve this wonderul landscape and increase biodiversity and climate change resilience or threatened species like the Malleeowl, Growling Grass Frog and Silky Mouse. Lemon Springs and Middlegate blocks (1193Ha) in Western Victoria are adjacent to the Little Desert National Park, and close to the Little Desert Nature Lodge which is owned by CVA. Acquiring this additional piece o land will enable us to create an important wildlie corridor (total 132,000Ha) that links the West and Central blocks o the Little Desert National Park. Your help to connect this landscape and preserve endangered species is needed. Please give generously towards our Lemon Springs Bush Reserve Tax Time Appeal and help make a diference today.
