1. Outline the issue in YOUR case study (CS). What is the incidence of slavery there? What is its pattern and scope? Do YOU find evidence of commodification/commoditization of human beings? In Bangladesh there are many garment factories that are owned by major companies such as Walmart and sears. The workers are working in a very unsafe environment. In Bangladesh just outside of Dhaka a factory collapsed killing nearly 500 workers. There had been reports that there were unsafe violations of building codes that were ignored by the supervisors. And also a Tazreen fashion factory fire that kill about 112 workers in a fire. This was very similar to the triangle factory fire in New York about 100 years ago. This show that one of the biggest problem is that the factories are not up to date. 2. YOUR case study (CS) meets the definition of slavery. Slavery is when a person or people are not allowed to leave and forced to carry out tasks that are dangerous or very hard labor. For my case study the form of slavery is factory slavery. This is consider slavery because the workers are forced to work in poor conditions and paid only of fraction of what they should be earning. 3. Which of the UDHR rights is being violated in YOUR CS? There can be more than one. Explain YOUR reasoning. -No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms. because it is slavery. -No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment; workers are sometimes punished for doing the job "poorly" and are miss treated in their working conditions as well. - Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association; people are fired for striking and forming groups against the company -Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.; many workers work for long periods of time with no rest or breaks and are paid very little.
