ORG Chairman’s Messagecontinued from cover 2 Robert Lloyd Chairman Emeritus, The V Foundation Co-Founder, V Foundation Wine Celebration This August at the Wine Celebration, we raised $4.7 million , bringing the total raised from this event to almost $58 million for cancer research. The V Wine Celebration kicked off on Thursday with several different intimate winery dinners. Our heartfelt thanks to the vintners that hosted these events: Suzanne Pride Bryan & Stuart Bryan, Launny & Weezie Steffens, the winemaking team from Silver Oak Cellars, and Gina Gallo & Jean Charles (“JC”)Boisset—who charmed guests as host of the popular Club Red. On Friday, members of The V Foundation Giv- ing Club attended the Presidents Club luncheon, hosted by Philip & Carol Nor eet, at The Napa Valley Reserve. This special event was sponsored by Bentley Motors and honored our beloved Vintner Grant honorees. That evening, The All-Stars of Cancer Research were feted at the “Let’s Get It Started” party. We were thrilled to have Olympic and World Figure Skating legend Scott Hamilton as a rst-time host of the Wine Celebration on Saturday. As a cancer survivor, Scott’s courageous journey and extraordinary character inspire others to never give up. A generous pledge of $1 million from Ron & Teri Kuhn, proprietors of Pillar Rock Vineyard, heartened guests and inspired impactful giving at the auction. A leukemia survivor herself, Teri Kuhn was a Vintner Grant Honoree at the 2010 Wine Celebration. The most successful Fund A Need to date was in honor of our dear friend and fellow Board member, Dave Kane. Over $1.5 million was raised for bladder cancer research. The V Foundation’s new Chairman of the Board, Steve Bornstein, formerly the President and CEO of the NFL Network, was acknowledged on the main stage. Bornstein was instru- mental in helping to create the Foundation in 1993 when he was president of ESPN. Bornstein lost his brother, mother and father to cancer over a 14-month period 20 years ago. During that time, he read an article in Sports Illustrated about Jim Valvano, his friend and colleague, and Jim’s own battle with cancer. Bornstein suggested to Valvano that they start a charity to ght cancer and The V Foundation began. During the gala event hosted by Beth Nickel at Nickel & Nickel win- ery, I was touched by a special tribute by Steve Bornstein and Julie Alle- gro, V Foundation Board member and co-chair of the V Wine Celebration. Together, they presented me with two jer- seys—one as Chairman Emeritus with the number 14, representing both my number that was retired when I played basketball at Rutgers University and the year 2014, and one with the number 21 for the number of years I served as V Foundation Chairman. We look forwad to celebrating the 17th Annual V Wine Celebration on August 6-9, 2015, in our continued ght against cancer! Kindest Regards,
