The Rochelle Gazette Page 2 Another very good time was our annual fund raiser and awards dinner , held in October at Beckwith Pointe. The Cottage honored five New Rochelle High School Advanced Placement art students. During Human Rights week this past April, they designed political cartoons for a program sponsored by the Cottage. Their cartoons were judged the best five out of 28 submissions. The five cartoons were exhibited at the Cottage and published in a local newspaper. Helping to present the Cottage's award to these students were State Senator George Latimer, Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, Assemblyman Steven Otis, and filling in for the County Executive, County Legislator Sheila Marcotte. The Cottage then moved on to award four honorees with our primary awards. They were Peter Feinman, the President of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Education who re- ceived the Community Leadership through History Award and renowned 3 - D Pop Artist Charles Fazzino of New Rochelle, who received the Community Leadership through Art Award. Following those honorees were Reginald Richardson, the Principal of New Rochelle High School who received the Community Leadership through Education Award and Detec- tive Terrence Fudge of the NRPD who received the Community Leadership through Service Award. The event and venue were well received, the food was delicious, the service was excellent and a good time was had by all. However, the evening was not a complete success. The organiza- tion was able to only bring around 85 of the needed 100 people the venue looked for. Gra- ciously, Beckwith Pointe worked with us so we would not be responsible for the shortfall of dinners. Because of their generosity, the event was a financial success. As the leadership of our Historical Association, we are struggling to plan future programs that would interest the membership, increase attendance, and at the same time generate greatly needed revenue. If you have any ideas, please share them with us. Call or stop in the Cottage to chat with us, please! Continued from page 1 Images courtesy of Karen Hessel
