FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2014 POST REGISTER A 2 people talk NEW YORK (AP) — An Ayn Rand novel written, temporarily shelved and later published as a play is finally being released in its original form. The New American Library, an imprint of Penguin Random House, announced Thursday that Rand’s “Ideal” would be pub- lished July 7. Rand had worked on the novel, about a Garbo-like actress and the fans she confronts, in the mid- 1930s. Unhappy with the result, she turned it into a play, which came out in 2005. Next summer’s publication will include both the novel and the play. Rand, who died in 1982, is still widely read. She is known for the million-selling novels “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Fountain- head.” Navy revokes honorary title given to Bill Cosby WASH- INGTON (AP) — The Navy is revoking Bill Cosby’s title of honorary chief petty officer, saying allegations of sexual abuse made against the comedian are serious and conflict with the Navy’s core values. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and Master Chief Petty Officer Michael Stevens made the announcement Thursday in a statement. Cosby enlisted in the Navy in 1956 and served four years as a hospital corpsman. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Put “ancient Egyptian people” into a Google image search, and none of the resulting photos resemble Christian Bale, Sigourney Weaver or Joel Edgerton , stars of Ridley Scott ’s biblical epic “Exodus: Gods and Kings.” The director inflamed calls for a boycott of the film with his com- ments last week that he couldn’t have made such a big-budget movie if “my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such.” “I’m just not going to get it financed,” he told the trade paper Variety. “So the question doesn’t even come up.” The question, perhaps, being: Should Hollywood be concerned about casting white actors to portray people who were definitely not white? It’s an institutional problem, said professor Todd Boyd , chair for the Study of Race and Popular Culture at the University of Southern California. Hollywood is a place where profit is king, he said, and it rarely takes big-budget risks on casts of color. today’s quiz Isaac Asimov’s Super Quiz Subject: SCIENCE (e.g., To what does “lunar” relate?
