The College was founded in 1898 by the Sisters of Mercy by Reverend Mother Sebastian Whyte. The College was sited at Tanti Avenue, Mornington, until 1975 when new premises were opened at Oakbank Road, Mornington, under the principalship of Sr Bernadette Kennedy. In 1976 the administration of the College passed from the Sisters of Mercy, and Mr Bernard McDowell was appointed to the position of Principal, becoming the College's first lay principal. Mr Peter Gurry was appointed Principal in February 1984. Mrs Patricia Cowling was appointed Principal to commence in 1996. Mr Christopher Houlihan commenced as Principal in 2001. The College was officially opened by His Grace, Archbishop Sir Frank Little, on 27 February 1977. In 1987, a new campus of Padua College was established at Inglewood Crescent in Rosebud. This is a Year 7-10 school, with the Mornington site continuing to provide a Year 7-12 education. Rosebud students attend Mornington for Years 11 and 12. In 2006, the College Board and Canonical Administrators of Padua College authorised the purchase of a large tract of land at Tyabb, in the Western Port Parish. In 2014, Year 7 & 8 students commenced at the Tyabb Campus on Frankston- Flinders Road and the campus will expand to another Year 7-10 school with students to attend Mornington for Years 11 & 12. Padua College provides secondary education for the children of approximately 1,600 families from Mt Eliza to Portsea. The Rosebud Campus caters for approximately 450 students from Sorrento, Rosebud and Dromana parishes. The Mornington Year 7 to 10 Campus caters for approximately 920 students from Mt Eliza and Mornington Parishes whilst in 2014, Tyabb Campus will house 145 Year 7 & 8 students from the Western Port Parish. 1.1. S PECIAL E MPHASIS AND N ATURE As a regional Catholic College, Padua has adopted a philosophy of inclusion, that is, all Catholic children of secondary age, regardless of socio-economic status and academic ability have first option for enrolment at Padua and are entitled to experience success in one or many of the learning areas offered in a wide ranging curriculum. This is reflected in the Padua Vision and Mission Statements. Support programmes are also available for students who require extension work or remedial assistance. A strong Pastoral Care programme ensures that each student is valued and receives individual counselling when appropriate. A comprehensive Religious Education programme based on the Archdiocesan resource of ‘To Know, Worship and Love’ is taught to students at all levels and this is complemented by Reflection Days and a Retreat Camp at Year 12.
