The title is in speech marks which indicates that it should be read a certain way, although which way we don’t yet know. Scaring someone to death is also a very well- known and common saying. Also the name Jessica is written in green whilst the rest is in blue, this emphasises the name for the audience, and this could be from warning and indicating that something may be off with this character. Not only is her name green but the image of her too. Green is thought to be the colour of envy, maybe Jessica has done committed a crime because of jealousy and this karma or vice versa. This really gets the audience asking questions and has them wanting to find out more. The theatrical poster looks animated and as if it is a cover of children’s book. There can be many reasons for this such as low budget or editing difficulties, although in the 1970’s editing wasn’t as expressive or imaginative as it is now so they couldn’t have gone far with the aesthetic appeal for this poster. “Something is after Jessica. Something very cold, very wet… and very dead.” This line has been put right at the top of the poster in white writing against the night sky. The colours a nd placement of the writing are very effective as it catches the audience’s eyes because there’s no writing at the top and it looks bold. He use of the dark night sky also comes in to effect as the dark can quite scary because of what we can’t see in it and anything can be lurking as the writing also admits. The image at the bottom once again goes with the writing at the top as skeletons are ‘dead’ and it is coming out of a pool of blood which relate to gore and horror. If we look at Jessica’s face it looks as though she has just seen a ghost, she looks terrified as if she has never seen anything like this before. Only showing her face and not the ‘monsters’ is also very effective as it makes the audience wonder how scary it must look or what exactly it is that has caused her to react in such horror. In the title ‘Jessica’ is written in green and the image of Jessica is also green. Green can be used to represent people who are sick, and they are known to appear pale or in animations green, whatever is coming at her may be disgusting or vile to look at, again this is very effective as it makes the audience want to see what she is looking at. Usually the sky looks like it is going on into the distance, this gives it a three dimension feel, however the dark sky in the poster looks flat this could be due to the lack of technology available for this type of work. In the 21 st century of a poster was made like this the skeleton hands would also be in 3D but again the lack of technology hasn’t allowed this to hap pen and production values then may have differed. The font of the title is bubbly and italic which gives a laid back but elegant style. This confuses me as the images used show horror and gory but the titles style suggests something else. Personally I think if the writing was bold and straight it would have been more effective as it would have looked more serious. Also I would have had the writing in red to emphasise death and evil. The poster also looks as though it has been painted or drawn. The layout is very clever as the title is on the bottom which is
