From Paris to Albury

When: Friday 15 May to Sunday 15 November

Where: LibraryMuseum, Corner of Kiewa and Swift Streets, Albury

Price: Free

Stunning gowns and couture pieces will be on display in this LibraryMuseum foyer display to celebrate regional women and high fashion during the early years of the 1960s.

This exhibition will include pieces created by significant Australian designers Beril Jents and Germaine Rocher, as well as European designers Hardy Aimes and Jean Patou. In a time before the internet or Australian fashion weeks, the glamorous high-society of Paris, the fashion capital of the world, was still a lifetime away from the wide open spaces of regional Australia.

How did people living in the regional areas bring a high-fashion style into the area? And how did Australian fashion develop to the industry it is today?
